Following a named instructor's course, especially when an employer, school or participating library provides access.

Assuming every course includes personal feedback or that every certificate is a professional qualification.

Courses and programs from universities and companies
Coursera offers provider-defined courses and programs with course-dependent assignments and credentials. Its free preview model generally opens the first module, rather than promising free completion of the whole course.

A defined syllabus or a specific provider's certificate, after checking its requirements.

Assuming every course is included in a subscription or every credential meets a particular employer's requirement.

Learning software development without eventually building and debugging projects outside the guided lesson.

edX offers courses and programs from education providers. Many courses have a free audit track with time-limited readings, video, discussion and ungraded assignments. Graded work and certificates generally require a paid track.
Best for
Inspecting or studying a specific academic course with known prerequisites.
Not for
Assuming audit access lasts indefinitely or includes a certificate.
Price
Audit access is available on many courses, generally for four to twelve weeks. Check the course's paid track and exclusions.
A count and a rate can move in opposite directions.
Original example: a team receives 40 requests and completes 8 late in one period. In the next it receives 120 requests and completes 12 late. The late count rises from 8 to 12, but the late rate falls from 20% to 10%.
A claim that "lateness doubled" is false for both measures. A claim that service improved needs more context: compare request difficulty, measurement rules and other outcomes before inferring a cause.
Self-check: what denominator belongs to each count? Use 40 for the first period and 120 for the second. A suitable introductory course should make you explain that choice, not just press a spreadsheet button.
Before you choose
Choose the next skill from the actual gap.
If calculating the rate is difficult, revisit fractions and percentages. If the calculation is easy but collecting the data is hard, a spreadsheet or SQL course may be more relevant. If you need to infer causes or uncertainty, study the appropriate statistics and design.
No single app or qualification is required for every data role. Check the actual work and any employer requirements. Use fictional or approved datasets, and do not upload private dashboards to an unfamiliar learning tool.
